The N64 Nostalgia Bundle Empty The N64 Nostalgia Bundle

Post by Artificial Sat Oct 20, 2012 6:46 pm

Put together by me. Here's the copypasta readme:

Code:
Arnox's Nostalgia Bundle v1.0
------------------------

Comes with:

Project 64 v1.6 Install EXE
10 Classic N64 Game ROMs
Xbox 360 Controller Config File

The 10 games are the vitals of the Nintendo 64. They are in alphabetical order:

Banjo Kazooie (USA)
Banjo Tooie (USA)
Donkey Kong 64 (USA)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (USA) (V1.0)
Mario Kart 64 (USA)
Perfect Dark (USA) (V1.1)
Star Fox 64 (USA) (V1.0)
Star Wars Episode I - Racer (USA)
Super Mario 64 (USA)
Super Smash Bros. (USA)

Note: As you can see, all of these are the USA version. Also, all versions of each game
have been considered before being put into this bundle. Most of them are the 1.0 versions
because they allow certain glitches that can be used for fun or speedrunning. Perfect Dark
is the only exception here as I find that it runs a bit better with a later version. It
is probably the most finicky game in this bundle as well due to its complexity.

Directions
----------

1. Run the install exe and install Project 64.

2. Go into the directory where it was installed and then extract and copy the rest of the
files to that directory (except this one of course).

3. When running any game for the first time, make sure when it's playing, you click on the
Options tab -> Configure Audio Plugin and then check the box that says "Sync game to Audio"
or else it will run all over the place.

4. You can get away with playing a couple of these games such as Mario Kart on the keyboard
but it is HIGHLY recommended that you use a controller of some sort. If you have a wired
Xbox 360 controller, that would be perfect. Just plug in the controller to a USB slot and
then click on Options -> Configure Controller Plugin. Click on the drop down box and select
the Xbox controller. Also, make sure the box to plug it in is checked.

Last thing now is to load the config file. Simply click on the "Load Profile" button and
select the Xbox.jsf file that you extracted and copied to the P64 directory earlier. The
controller config file I have included in this bundle is set to a 360 controller and I have
adjusted it to work very well with N64 games already. Here's how I set it:

Analog Stick - Right Thumbstick

D-Pad - D-Pad

C Buttons - Left Thumbstick (except for Up C. I found it was too easy to accidentally select so
I remapped it to the Y Button

Left Shoulder/Right Shoulder - Left Bumper/Right Bumper respectively

Z Button - Right Trigger

A Button - A Button

B Button - X Button

Start Button - Start Button

_____________________________________________________________________________________

And that would be it. Thanks to Nintendo and other developers for making these awesome games and
thanks to the people who have developed P64 into a fine piece of software. Thanks to the people
who have converted these excellent games to ROMs. And lastly but not least at all, Thanks to all
who have downloaded my bundle. Game on, gentle folk, game on.

- Arnox

And no, I haven't stolen credit for this. Arnox is my main online alias. Yes, I can prove it. >.> Nothing to steal here anyway.

Your list of classics is wrong. You don't have Goldeneye. That's like cock slapping an entire generation.

I would switch episode 1 racer with goldeneye and perfect dark with jet force gemini. Other than that it's a pretty good compilation.

Niggas please. I might have consented to replace Racer but not with those games and I will explain why.

1. Goldeneye was a great game when it came out. No doubt about it. But Perfect Dark perfected (no pun intended) the formula and rendered Goldeneye pretty much obsolete. Everything Goldeneye did, Perfect Dark stepped up and did better.

2. Jet Force Gemini had HORRIBLE controls. I have no idea what Rare was thinking when they made it like that. Never saw the likes of it besides that incredibly shoddy Resident Evil 4 PC port.

Tried Perfect Dark once. Looked like there was no story and it was just shoot bots that tended to just kill you instantly.
But I'd have to agree with the guys. Goldeneye would have been a better option. Especially if it came with all the unlockables and stuff. Golden PP7, extra MP characters like Oddjob...

Never played Jet Force Gemini. Played Army Men: Sarges Heroes.

I agree on the the controls for jet force gemini being kinda fucked up, took me some damn time to finish the game like that. On everything else though it was a great game.

OK, tell me what you like about Goldeneye specifically and I will tell you how Perfect Dark does it better or just as good.

Also, if you guys would like, I could release one more bundle with 10 more classic ROMs in it if everyone REALLY insists.

Mario Party: This picture sums up my opinion of that game perfectly.

I think Excitebike doesn't work properly on an emulator although I'm not too sure.

Mario Tennis: Eh, that game's got a shaky spot. I'll put it in though if I can't think of anything else.

For the record... I never even heard of Perfect Dark when I played Goldeneye. I don't actually own it, but I've played the crap out of it. Good selection of weapons, good music... Granted if you had proximity mines and were playing against an expert... expect mined spawn points. Happened to me a few times. Spawn boom.

And... driving a tank.
TANK BEATS EVERYTHING!

Can't really think of any games to add to the list myself. Although I will agree with a couple of Batt's suggestions. Making a second or an expansion pack sounds interesting.

Ms. Pacman
Missile Command
Adventure
Bomberman
Pinball
Breakout
Yars Revenge
Asteriods

Oh, wait. N64, not VCS. My bad.

Ironically, that compilation Angel posted already exists, minus a few entries I think. It's an arcade classics compilation.

Expansion pack plz!
I don't know if I'd get the updated Goldeneye for the Wii. It just isn't the same without the Pierce Brosnan Bond. Daniel Craig was ok, but modeling him into the Goldeneye remake? Sorry.
