Poking (Old Issue)

Is it cheap/flat-out cheating/just fine? I was playing with someone earlier today and he was poking the crap out of me. He just touches me once with his flailing saber and I usually die almost instantly if he was doing it right at the time. I just can't help but think how cheap it was even though it seems perfectly valid on paper.

TL;DR: It really rustled my jimmies.

What are your guys' stance on this super old exploit?

It's the main reason people want SP damages, in my opinion. It's annoying to be on the receiving end of it, and yeah, it's got the same stigma of a noob tube, but to a degree, it's a necessary evil. If you couldn't turn while swinging, no one would ever hit anyone and it would descend into a luck match more than anything else.

It's about as good a compromise between design constraints and making the game playable as it could get, I suspect.

I don't care for it but we all do it to some degree, whether we realize it or not, but I am aware you're talking about the extreme cases where they're trying extremely hard to keep the saber in you for the duration of the swing. Shrug.

For my part I'm not against it, I'd rather be on the receiving end of a good poke than some random kata or DFA noob. It kinda forces you to learn to actually dodge hits also, so it's not all that bad.

I never mastered the Poke.

the word "Poke" doesn't seem appropriate for that definition. Spastic swinging seems like a more appropriate term.

Yea... well... spastic swinging is a bit of a mouthful in casual conversation. Just like M-12 LRV. So... it be teh poke in JKA, and teh Warthog in Halo.

I think I can throw "HEY STOP SPASTIC SWINGING" out there easily enough
